Traceability in electronics manufacturing

Traceability
end-to-end, transparent, and reliable

End-to-end traceability is the foundation of quality and trust in electronics manufacturing.

SMTEC’s comprehensive traceability system forms the backbone of our production processes. From goods receipt onwards, we record all relevant data such as lot number, date code, manufacturer number, and other material-related information. Every material entering our production facility is assigned a unique UID (Unique ID).

This UID is consistently linked to the serial numbers of the printed circuit boards, either via a laser-marked Data Matrix code or a printed label. This ensures seamless and unambiguous traceability throughout the entire production process.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about traceability in electronics manufacturing

Traceability refers to the end-to-end tracking of materials and components throughout the entire production process. The aim is to be able to identify at any time where a component originated and how it was processed.

At SMTEC, all relevant material data such as lot numbers, date codes, and manufacturer numbers are recorded as early as goods receipt. Each material is assigned a unique ID, which is linked to the corresponding PCB serial number.

Marking is carried out either via a laser-marked Data Matrix code or a printed label with a serial number. This ensures permanent and unambiguous identification.

End-to-end traceability enables precise quality control, efficient fault analysis, and targeted action in the event of product recalls. It also creates transparency and trust across the entire supply chain.

Yes. The recorded data remains documented and allows for clear and traceable analysis even after production has been completed.

Traceability is particularly important for electronic assemblies where high quality requirements, regulatory standards, or long-term product safety play a key role.
